Amcor and Aludium collaborate on low-carbon product

Rolled products manufacturer Aludium and Amcor Capsules, a producer of closures for wine and spirits, have recently announced a collaboration.

Aludium supplies low-carbon aluminium for screw caps to Amcor

The two companies team up to bring an aluminium product – screw caps – to market with more than 50 % reduction in carbon footprint compared to the average carbon footprint for primary aluminium sold in Europe. When compared to primary aluminium produced in China, it represents an average carbon footprint reduction of more than 80 %.*

Low-carbon aluminium screw caps for wine and spirit brands

The Aludium Eco Brand 4.0 product with less than 4t of CO2e/t Al from raw material extraction right up until delivery (certified and independently verified) is for use in screw caps. This saving is made possible thanks to the combined use of recycled content and the selection of low-carbon primary aluminium.

“We are passionate about bringing more sustainable products to market,” explains Bertrand Daru, sustainability director of Amcor Capsules. “We are already leading the market with 96 % of our products being recycle-ready. But we want to go further and reduce the levels of CO2 emitted during manufacturing. Our aluminium screw caps now offer a more sustainable alternative for wine and spirits brands and distributors.”

Michael Brandner, specialities sales director at Aludium says: “Thanks to heavy investments in Aludium assets, technology and processes, we are helping customers and end users achieve their carbon reduction targets.”
