Rio Tinto, in partnership with Corona Canada, has launched Canada’s first specially-marked, low carbon beverage can, manufactured by Ball Corp.

The increased consumption of aluminium beverage cans in 2019 led to record number of 36.5 bn cans recycled, or 488,000 t of aluminium.

A new Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) shows that the carbon footprint of aluminium cans produced in North America has been significantly reduced over the last three decades.

Beer drinkers will soon be able to enjoy their favourite brew out of cans made from responsibly produced low-carbon aluminium.

Crown Holdings, Inc. will build a new beverage can manufacturing facility in Bowling Green, Kentucky. The plant will supply aluminium beverage cans to the company’s customers serving a variety of categories including sparkling water, energy drinks, carbonated soft drinks, teas, nutritional beverages, hard seltzers, craft beers and cocktails.

CanPack has officially opened its aluminium beverage can facility in Tocancipa, Colombia. The new plant is capable of producing 1.3 billion cans, expandable to 1.9 billion.

The overall recycling rate for aluminium beverage cans in the European Union, Switzerland, Norway and Iceland in 2017 rose 2.3 percentage points from 2016 to reach a record high of 74.5% in 2017. Almost 31 billion cans were recycled in the EU and Efta countries in 2017, representing a total of over 420,000 tonnes of aluminium and underscoring its contribution to the European circular economy. All aluminium cans are equally recyclable, no matter the colour, design, format or size.
